CMM Manager Help, Nikon iNEXIV Machine
Hey guys,
I am relatively new to metrology (I have over 10 years EXP mold making, and CNC operating) and I am having some basic issues with CMM Manager and need some assistance. The company I work for bought two new Nikon (I believe they are VMR with probe but I have no idea, there is vision and probe available) CMMs without having anyone that knows how to use them, so they graciously volunteered me haha. Anyways, I have had 2 days worth of training for the software and that's it, I am currently having issues aligning the CAD to the machine head. I believe I have done everything right up until I try to bring in my XY location alignment. I am getting form error and the Cartesian coordinates will then shift in a direction I don't want. Keep in mind, I am very new to metrology in general so if I am not using proper terminologies please correct me, any help will be greatly appreciated. I've attached a few pictures that will hopefully help you guys understand my problem. I am having form error which is too much, on top of that when I try and align after it verifies the part, you can see that the yellow Cartesian coordinates isn't even remotely close to the desired cords. Like I was saying earlier, I am very new to metrology so any help would be greatly appreciated and I am willing to work with whomever responds to try and understand what I am doing wrong. If I were having this sort of issue, considering that there are two new machines on the floor, I would be asking for help from the supplier/distributor/manufacturer. CMMs are generally complex instruments, and 2 days of training is hardly scratching the surface for someone who isn't experienced in using them. That said, learning to use the machine really is a matter of sitting in front of it and doing stuff with it; there is no amount of training that can make an expert user out of anyone if it is unfamiliar software. You can certainly suggest to your management that a more extended training session, like a week at regional Nikon facility would be money well spent, though.
Bottom line, get someone on the phone from the company that took your money, and make them help you.

My point there is simply that the models should have feature integrity and the geometry should have been created accurately. I don't know how CMM-Manager software works with CAD inputs or anything else for that matter, but it may be that you are skipping some sort of prep step for getting the CAD into the system, due to lack of training/familiarity, or perhaps the native alignment/axis orientation presented by the CAD info is somehow related to a different part of the assembly rather than the part itself, and the software is being fooled.Originally Posted by dhaighfirst off, thank you for the quick reply. Have you tried to do a manual alignment of the part without reference to any CAD data, and just probe the features manually, to see if the machine will allow that to be done correctly?
