Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. will present “Smart-Ups” — a summer program for young girls currently in third through fifth grades. Attendees will learn leadership, economic literacy and business skills by creating their own mini-society and opening up their own business. The program will run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays at the Chapman University Leatherby Center Launch Labs, 549 W. Palm Ave., Orange.

Jazz Series

The Newport Beach Central Library will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a free event featuring guest speaker Jim Abbott, former pitcher of the Angels. The program will begin at 7 p.m.

Summer Concert Series

OC Parks will host three free concerts from 5 to 8 p.m. Sega Genecide with Dream Brother will perform on July 11 and the Fenians with Cory Clark will perform on July 18 at Mason Regional Park, 18712 University Drive, Irvine. The English Beat with dj sandok will perform on July 25 at Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Road, Orange.

OC Parks

OC Parks will host three free nights of cinema from 6 to 10 p.m. “Paddington 2” will be shown on July 12 and “The Goonies” on July 19 at Yorba Regional Park, 7600 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim. “Incredibles 2” will be screened on July 26 at Mason Regional Park, 18712 University Drive, Irvine.

‘Veterans Project’

Orange County military veterans interested in participating in developing a “Veterans Project” dance will be interviewed by project directors and join in a dance workshop for an audition. The interviews and dance workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chapman University’s Partridge Dance Center, 190 N. Cypress St., Orange. The “Veterans Project” dance will be performed on Sept. 21 at the Musco Center for the Arts.

Leadership in Heels

A Leadership in Heels aimed at teaching women how to lead in business will be held from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the Center Club, 650 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. “Multi-Generational Leadership Leading and Being Led” will be hosted by Leadership in Heels Founder and CEO Scharrell Jackson, who is also a partner, chief executive operating officer and chief financial officer for Squar Milner in Irvine, one of the top 50 accounting firms in the nation.

‘Christmas in July’

The Orange County Rescue Mission will host a “Christmas in July” event so people can donate items for the 268 men, women and children currently residing at various campuses and the Village of Hope, the Rescue Mission’s transitional living facility. The mission is in need of canned foods and hygiene items. They can be dropped off at the Village of Hope, 1 Hope Drive, Tustin.

Hot August Night

Hot August Night, a Neil Diamond tribute band, will perform at 6 p.m. at the San Juan Hills Golf Club, 32120 San Juan Creek Road, San Juan Capistrano. The concert will benefit Creer, a local organization that seeks to help children in the community. For more information, visit www.creeroc.org.

Shopping Extravanganza

The Outlets at San Clemente will hold a Shopping Extravaganza with discounts at multiple stores. The Outlets at San Clemente will donate $25 for every $35 ticket purchased to a local nonprofit organization of the shopper’s choice. Since the first event in 2015, Outlets at San Clemente’s Shopping Extravaganza has raised more than $189,000 for various Orange County nonprofits.

Amigos de Bolsa Chica hosts a tour of the wetlands from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the first Saturday of every month, departing every 15 minutes from the footbridge in the south parking lot of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. The tour is led by docents and participants will learn about the birds, endangered species, history, ecology and restoration of the wetlands. Community beach cleanups are held on the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. The Hortense Miller Garden covers 2 1/2 acres of the upper slopes of Boat Canyon and features a range of plants and small themed gardens. La County Fair

Orange County Fair Reading Program Ohio

The Huntington Beach Library presents Laptime Storytime at 9:15, 10 and 11 a.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. Saturdays at 7111 Talbert Ave. for children 18 months to 3 years old. The library's Preschool Storytime for children 3 to 5 are at 10 and 11 a.m. Fridays. Call (714) 375-5107.

A two-hour walking tour of the Bolsa Chica mesa and wetlands is conducted at 10 a.m. on the third Sunday of every month by the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. This docent-led tour makes five stops along the walk bridge and loop trails of the wetlands. Meet in the south reserve parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway across from Bolsa Chica State Beach. Orange County Fair Reading Program 2017

People can volunteer to tutor children each week at El Morro Elementary School at 8681 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach. The tutoring sessions are provided by the Learning Club, which operates two afternoons a week from January to May. For more information, visit aauw2-lagunabeach.org.
